Recently someone said to me “Systems are not sexy and they don’t sell” after I picked myself up of the floor I knew I had a new challenge because if a fellow business consultant could tell me systems are not sexy then I know I have a lot of work to do for people to see the true value and asset of having systems live in their business. My first step was to find the sexiest systems in the world and I can confirm I have found them and let’s be honest systems is the money maker and what’s not sexy about earning more money?
When I work one to one with salon owners the systems are something we look at first because most often all the issues they discuss boil down to a lack of structure/strategy, miss communication and a lot of grey areas in terms of running the business. So, my aim is to make those grey areas black and white whilst empowering your team to take responsibility of those systems and to come with solutions to your door not problems. The reality is people will come and go from your business but the systems are what run the show and that is why it is critical to make the salon the destination and not individual stylists.
Now I know you might be thinking I have systems in place but I am yet to meet a salon owner who has a bespoke manual/bible of policies which are referred to daily/weekly or even monthly by the team and are updated and evolved by the team. So, whilst I am sure you do have systems I know they can be improved and more importantly developed into what could be your biggest unique selling point when you come to sell or pass down your business and what is not sexy about that!!
